Rackspace Buys Jungle Disk
One of my favorite online backup providers, Jungle Disk, has been bought out by Rackspace. Jungle Disk currently provides a nice backup utility that interfaces nicely with Amazon S3 for the actual storage. I use JungleDisk for both of my laptops and it has been great, stays out of my way, does its job and is not resource intensive. Let's hope it stays that way after this buyout.
I guess the idea behind this purchase is that Rackspace will be able to add support into the Jungle Disk software for people to use their Mosso service. From what the Jungle Disk guys are saying they were planning on adding this support in anyways... but I have a feeling that they will start adding more features for users that decide to go with Mosso. Perhaps adding support for bit level server backups? Maybe Exchange mailbox backup support? I would LOVE that, as the off-site backup services on the market for servers are WAY expensive currently and it would definitely be nice to see server backups begin to be supported in the cloud market.
To me it looks like this buyout could definitely be great for both companies, and hopefully for consumers as well. I'll continue to let you guys know about any future devolopments with Jungle Disk and Rackspace, so make sure you subscribe to the RSS feed if you haven't yet.
