In Britain, Following The Law A Prosecutable Offense

Just about everyone in the Western world has probably seen the cameras that aim to stop you from running red lights, by giving you a nice ticket in the mail. Well, there have been quite a few problems with those systems, namely that they just aren't bringing in enough revenue as drivers become more safe to avoid getting the tickets.

Over in Europe, specifically France and Britain, they have been installing thousands of similar systems that catch speeders. To help drivers have a fighting chance against these systems Novus released the Mini Coyote, which allows drivers to push a button when they pass a camera on the road. When they push that button, the data goes to the Novus servers and is then pushed back down to any other users of the device that are traveling in the same area, thereby alerting them of the device and saving them a ticket. Well, the British government is none to pleased about this development! According to the Times Online, Robert Gifford of  the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety said:

It should be made clear to drivers who are thinking of buying these devices that they could be prosecuted for perverting the course of justice.

This seems absolutely ridiculous to me! I am American, so I'm not sure how exactly the law works over in Britian (or in America for that matter, I'm no lawyer), but this seems to be the equivelant of trying to outlaw motorists from flashing their brights at oncoming traffic to warn them of a waiting police car. Seems like another case of the government getting ticked off that someone bypassed their carefully laid plans to bring more money into their coffers. Governments across the world just can't seem to react to technology in a very reasonable way.

Anyways, I would highly recommend that if you live in France or Britain and somehow came across this blog, that you buy a Mini Coyote. Namely to piss your government off : )
