Pownce Shutting Down

Yup, micro blogging/file sharing website Pownce is officially shutting down. According to blog posts from the Pownce team and Six Apart, Pownce will be shutting down on December 15th with Leah Culver and Mike Malone joining the Six Apart engineering team. Kevin Rose and Daniel Burka will be advisors to Six Apart, how much of a symbolic move this is I don't really know.

There were really no details in either post regarding why the service was shutting down, but presumably the lack of income and an economy that isn't exactly great for more VC money didn't help. I also think it came down to just not exploding in use like other similar services. I tried it out for a few days a year ago or so, but it wasn't much fun without other friends to share files with. Getting a bunch of your friends to sign up for yet another service isn't all that easy, as this market/sector was already begging for some consolidation.

This really goes to show you that it takes both a good idea, great implementation and the right timing to make a new social website work. Pownce had more PR when it first came out than any other service in recent memory, but still failed. Not a good omen for the oodles of other similar services out there.

If you want to buy a car, you will have to get the loans. Moreover, my sister all the time utilizes a collateral loan, which is the most fast.
