PeopleJar - A social network with a twist

Hey, sweet, yet another social network out to change the world! I know that's my reaction everytime I hear of some new "social network".  PeopleJar seems a little bit different though, and possibly actually useful. The site allows you to build customizable searches to find people with similar interests. You can narrow it down by gender, location, language, age etc. The site is nicely designed and laid out and the they do a nice job guiding your searches. I did note that changing information in your profile can take a bit, a lot of AJAX going on there or something.

The only real problem, as there is with every new social network, is reaching critical mass so that people can actually find each other. It definitely isn't there yet, at least not in Michigan, as apparently only 3 Michiganders have signed up other than myself. Perhaps having TechCrunch cover them will help with getting a lot more people signed up on the site.

I would love to see Meetup buy these guys out and integrate it with their site. Meetup has the great features for getting groups of people together andPeopleJar potentially has the ability to allow you to find people to get in the group. And of course, Meetup would allow the site to immediately get a lot more people involved, which would definitely help make it a useful service.
