The 5 Worst Designed Web Designer Sites Ever

I was looking through my local Craigslist computer section the other day and saw a ton of postings for flash websites and websites in general. Clicking through on some of those postings to their websites revealed some of the worst web design I have ever seen, and by supposed web design companies! One would think that they would put their best foot forward in order to win prospective clients over, but apparently not.

Seeing this awful work, I decided to compile a list of the worst designed web designer sites. Here it goes:

1: MyWebTown

The actual graphics work isn't bad, but all navigation is done through images and using image maps. It makes the visitor have to guess on where they have to put their mouse to get to any relevant sections. This is the definition of the late 90's as far as the web is concerned.

2: WebSpinners

As compared to MyWebTown this is the definition of early to mid 90's web design. Tables tables everywhere! All the brown colors on this site forced me to go take a crap while I was writing this article, seriously. To be fair, the page does state:

Located in Lakewood, Colorado, WebSpinners.com has been designing clean, no frills websites since 1997. We specialize in well-organized content, ease of navigation, and fast loading pages. Our sites are designed to be fully platform independent and viewable with all web browsers.

I have to give some respect because this page is usable and information is easy to find. However, a page  can be usable, fast loading, well organized and still look good. Having a clip art GIF of a spider as your logo is pretty hokey...

3: DCFB

The frontpage on this one sucks balls. Much like our friends up at number 1, MyWebTown, everything is in images. This is unacceptable, people are used to pages that have a decent amount of text on them. And as far as search engines are concerned, their home page is invisible. It also seems like it was designed for people with 800x600 resolutions or perhaps even smaller. Not very much fun to navigate when on a nice big monitor. Their site does get better beyond on the home page, they do start using text, but for designers the design still leaves me wanting a lot more.

4: Mandalay Solutions

Where to start? The rolling clouds animated GIF? Or the GIF in the top right corner of a computer monitor that appears to be going to different pages? Animated GIF's should be used sparingly, like really sparingly. Like never. I honestly have a hard time reading the text on the home page because the cloud keeps getting my attention. Actually, it feels like I'm moving through the internet and it is inducing vertigo. Now I gotta puke...

5: Rowell Design

This page hasn't really committed any of the sins the other sites on this list have, but it still strikes me as a butt ugly site. The logo and the weird face in the header strike me as odd and a little bit scary. The face looks like a demon possessed rural Chinese woman... The page does have the typical guy in a business suit with arms outstretched like he is really happy about something. When is the last time you have seen someone at your office do that? Maybe when he heard there was free lunch or something.

Well, that is it for my list. I am sure you have come across some sites that are even worse, and if you have please share them in the comments.

I know, I hope none of these companies get pissed at me : ). I tried to provide some constructive criticism so they can maybe fix some of the issues.

Like I said at the bottom of the post, I am sure there are some that are worse, and if you know of any than post them in the comments! I myself have never seen one that is worse than MyWebTown or WebSpinners, those were just awful.
